My Judge and Jury: Convicted for My Differences

Jason A. Dingus

His Writing

He began writing poetry as a teenager as an outlet for his emotions.
T
he fuel for his poetry comes from his lifestyle differences, and trials and tribulations from his past. Before now Jason has not shared his poetry with anyone. His poems have remained dormant for about ten years. Only now does he feel that he finally has a story to tell! Through Jason's poetic writings, he hopes to give hope to those that are different, and anyone that has a dream. His writing will let them know, that they are not alone and the key is to never give up, for somewhere in the future your day will come!

Jason A. DingusJason A. Dingus was born in Norton, Virginia, on August 22, 1982, one of two boys, to Newton and Linda Dingus. His mother was dedicated to raising two boys, which at times became a difficult task. His father was a hard working man, and still works today as a Cable Lineman, a job he has had for the past 27 years. Jason's home was a little town called Pound, Virginia, a place where the population was a little over a thousand people. It was a quiet little town, where the most action seen, was at the local High School football games, on Friday nights.

Jason attended Pound High School, where he graduated in 2001. One of the greatest influences on his writing was his high school Honors English teacher, Pamela Gilmer. She is one of the two influences on Jason's writing. She impacted Jason's life more than any other teacher ever has.

The other influence being that of his aunt, and author Melissa R. Martin, from a very early age. Jason could recall reading her poetry, and aspiring to someday be just like her. After high school, Jason relocated to Huntington, West Virginia, in 2002. There he chose to further his education, where he attended Triad Technical School, obtaining certification as a Phlebotomist. This sparked Jason's interest in the Medical Field.

Continuing Education

He went on to attend Huntington Junior College, where he pursued an associates' degree in Medical Assisting with a minor in Medical Coding. Jason's academic career was successful. He managed to obtain a 3.75 GPA, and join the Honor Society. A lot of hard work and self determination allowed him to keep his honor's until his education was put on hold.

In 2007 Jason met his life partner, Robert Northup.

Robert was from Ohio. He taught Jason to believe in himself and helped him to finally find the true meaning of happiness. After six years in West Virginia, Jason and his partner relocated back to his hometown in Virginia, where he could catch up on lost time with family and friends. Jason now works in the customer service industry and enjoys spending time with family and friends!

Upcoming Release- My Judge and Jury

"Sticks and stones could have broken my bones: But words nearly destroyed me!

From elementary school to high school, during puberty, and my confusing teenage years I... just wanted a way to escape the pain.."

- Jason A. Dingus, author of My Judge and Jury: Convicted For My Differences (Candalyse Publishing, 2008), is an inspiration to many. He possesses the strength of character that many, much older than he is, only wish they had. Perhaps, it was the constant verbal and physical abuse suffered at the hands of small town folk who refused to accept his differences. Or, maybe his strength comes from his strong desire to show others that we are all the same in reality and we must accept those who appear different. No matter how Jason obtained his inner strength, he draws from his life experiences to compile a powerful book of poetry that chronicles his life.

The Age Of Innocence

"From the heart of a child came feelings that, at the time, brought shame. There were things, emotions, confusing thoughts that constantly flooded my mind and soon came to have undesirable effects on my family. How could a childhood be so difficult? What would happen if anyone found out? Why did I have to bear all of this alone?" In chapter one of twenty-five-year old Jason's book, he candidly, poignantly, and powerfully addresses the issues that haunted his childhood which nearly led to suicide. Frustrations led to emotional pain, the darkness of addiction, and the hopelessness of depression.

Then the epiphany: a powerful realization that in order for others to accept him, he must accept - and love - himself first.
